Prayer ListPrayer requests from Warren Henderson 9/24/2009 Thanks so much for praying for us concerning the sale of our home in Colfax. The best way to describe our family’s situation the last three months would be by the phrase “just enough and just in time.” Living on the edge has certainly provided the Lord opportunities to show us His handy work day after day. We had four house showings this last week and on Tuesday two couples called (on the same day) wanting to buy our home. This worked out well from a negotiation standpoint and we signed a contract this morning for a little less than our asking price (no inspections, no contingencies, and it is a cash offer) – we hope to close the last week of October. There were no realtors involved so we were able to save about $9,000; in short, the Lord sold our home in the best way possible. Another plus, the buyers do not plan to move to the area until spring and they have asked our son Matthew to stay in the house and look after it. This arrangement would cut his commute time to UW-Stout in half. The closing date works well for us in that if we remain diligent in the work, I think we can have the Chippewa house construction projects finished within a month (that includes twelve days I will be gone for ministry in October). I am installing a wood furnace and finishing up the electrical and plumbing work presently; several family members are painting this week. Next week I hope to install the ceilings, some flooring, and start the trim work. Thanks for your prayers – we are completely humbled by the love and care of our God!!! Please continue to pray about our water pipe situation. Another pipe
broke on Monday so we really need wisdom to find just the right plumber
to help us with this.
* This
weekend is the annual all-Quito-assemblies conference. Jim Fleming is
the speaker and he will appreciate your praying for him. Pray that God
will give a good spirit of unity among the many believers who attend
the conference.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
1. Pray for the students and
teachers alike of the Discipleship Course.
2. Pray for positive
steps to be taken towards peace in the region.
3. Pray for the youth to unite in
love and be a strong testimony in their schools and family circles.
Praise & Prayer requests from Kent and Jenny Schafer 9/23/09 Praises: 1. Opportunities to deepen relationships with people from church! 2. Opportunities to better understand the Mozambican world view (regardless of how initially discouraging it may be)! 3. For the relationships God has given us with our language helper, Alberto, and with Paula and Augustino.
Prayer requests: 1. That we would be focused on the Lord and be encouraged by His word. 2. That we could understand the Mozambican culture, learn to appreciate those things that are not contrary to God’s Word, and began to become MozambicansJ 3. That he would give us wisdom to know how to react to the cultural differences we face (in church, on the street, with our neighbors…everywhere and all the time:) 4. That we could be a witness to our neighbors and friends. 5. That our bodies would adjust to the heat. Even though our Mozambican friends say it’s not really hot yet, it’s already starting to feel really hot to us:)
because He's faithful, Kent and Jenny Schafer Story Book Camp prayer requests from 10/7/2009> Greetings! On 9/26 we had our annual SBL
Camp Sponsors Committee Meeting
as well as a Camp Board Meeting. It's always good to see camp friends & review the year & look forward to the future by His grace! At the morning Board Meeting there was discussion on: --Selling the camp van, the Howell's van, & the little truck w/plow. Monies would go towards buying a mini van for the camp (that camp families could also use when needed). --Checking options related to the camp insurance. We pay $15,000+ yearly for liability & fire insurance. --How to make the softball field more level around the infield & bases --Switching banks --Putting photos that fade in & out on the web site --Nominating new camp sponsors--Tina Howell, Kyle Block, Lacey Block, Dan Spaargaren, Julie Spaargaren, Alyssa Quilling, & Beth Hanson. Later at the afternoon sponsors meeting, three were elected for a 3-yr. term on the SBL Board--Keith Block, Kevin Brown, & Tom Messerly. There was also a spending limit increase amendment to the camp bylaws that was passed unanimously to allow board members to make spending decisions of up to $25,000 without calling a meeting of the camp sponsors to get approval. (The previous limit had been $5,000.) Further discussion involved: --Moving the Three Bears cabin --Getting new kayak paddles --Considering a new spot for the outdoor basketball goal --A hazardous stump on the NW corner of the Kings Court --Whether to change the camp fiscal year --How to recruit young men for counseling --Dealing with cell phones (we may go to zero tolerance next summer) --Developing cross country ski trails --Broom ball supplies --Canoe trips (they are frequently hazardous to the health of camp canoes) Pray for the right action to be taken where needed! This past weekend we had around 50 up from the Chi Alpha Students for Christ from Duluth. We also had brothers come down from Baudette & cut up perhaps 35-40 cords of wood on the soccer field. It will dry there all winter & be ready for burning a year from now, Lord willing. What an encouragement it is to hear all those chain saws buzzing & see all this completed in a few hours work! These bros. also filled in softball field holes (where the bases are) with sand. Also, several brothers were working with Myron Vath on getting a big bay window in for the upstairs Log House Apartment area. I went over today & saw the work. Myron was doing a bit of mudding to finish things up. The window presents a beautiful view of the lake, makes the apartment area much brighter, & gives it a bigger appearance--all a blessing for whoever stays there! Karen & I journeyed to Sunburg, MN, where we stayed with Dave & Dotty VanHal & had a delightful time with brethren there on the Lord's Day--worshiping our Lord Jesus & sharing His precious Word. On Wednesday, Larry heads down to see his parents. Then on Thursday, Lord willing, Tina & I head down to Brookfield, MO, to visit my parents. They are doing well but we know our visits with them on earth are limited. It's also my 35th high school reunion & homecoming week. I've been invited to join classmates in the homecoming parade, but I will decline. When younger I remember watching the parade & thinking, "Who are those older folks out there on the flatbed truck & why are they in the parade?" The youngsters won't need to ask that question about me. My class is scheduled to get together for a meal at the Helms Street Inn on Saturday night. I'm not excited about the location of the meal, but I haven't seen some of these folks for 30+ years & may not see them again in this lifetime, so I plan to go. I'm planning to wear my favorite SBL shirt (black with John 3:16 written out clearly on the back). Is this like holding up a John 3:16 sign at a sporting event? Your prayers are valued for good visits. Remember that the SBL Family Fall Retreat will be held October 15-18 with Keith Trevolt sharing the Word. We have 13 family units planning to come for this event but still have room for more if you are able to join us! Campers are welcome to come in Wednesday night. The retreat begins with breakfast on Thursday morning & ends with lunch on the Lord's Day. Thank you for praying & participating in the Lord's work here! Safe in Him, Uncle Bill ____________________ Prayer Request from Vision Beyond Boarders: Patrick Klien: 9/30/2009 This is the orginztion that gave us all the seed for the first container. They do a great work for the Lord all over the world. Praise: Praise the Lord for the opportunity for Paula and Diane to attend the Steer Conference and represent Vision Beyond Borders. It was an encouraging conference and they had an opportunity to hear Josh McDowall speak about the need to minister to Muslims. Paula had the opportunity to be interviewed about Vision Beyond Borders and the work we are doing around the world. Pray God will use this opportunity to encourage people to pray for missions and ministries around the world. Praise the Lord for the opportunity we have to send five large pallets of seeds to Haiti. Pray God uses these seeds to bless the people of Haiti and to minister His love and provision to them. Pray many people will come to Christ as a result! Praise the Lord for the container of supplies that will soon be shipped to Uganda. Please pray the finishing work for the container will come together on Sunday as teams gather to finish the last packing and listing of supplies. Pray for God's blessing, and please pray that Customs will not charge any duty on any of the items that are on the container, but that it will arrive to those it is intended for with no excess charges! Prayer Needs: Please continue to pray for the upcoming trip to Southeast Asia. The teams will be visiting the refugees and providing supplies, support, encouragement and the hope of Jesus Christ. Please pray everything they need to take will be provided for, pray the team will have an anointing of the Holy Spirit to serve and truly share the love of Jesus with those in desperate need of the hope that is found in Him alone. Pray they will have Rivers of Living Water, that they will be filled to overflowing, so they in turn may minister the love of Jesus Christ. Please pray for the program the team will be doing for the Karen. They have been asked to put on a program to encourage the people, so please pray that everything will come together according to God's plan and that His Words and His love and provision for these people will be evident. Please pray for provision for a contact we work with who will be shipping a container full of clothing and additional items to Romania. He reports their warehouse is full as the await an additional $6,000 to ship the container. Please pray God will bring provision to them so the people of Romania can receive the much needed clothing before winter! Please continue to pray for Iran and for provision for the Farsi Bibles sent to Iran. The Bibles cost $2.40 each, and VBB has committed to purchasing 25,000. We believe the Word of God has the power to transform this dark land into a country flowing with the love of Jesus Christ. Only through the transforming power of God is this possible. Please join us in praying for this country and for the Word of God to go forth and accomplish the purpose for which it has been sent! Continue to pray for Burma and the Karen refugees. Please continue to pray that God will uphold them and will surround them with His favor as with a shield. Pray they will experience His presence as never before, experiencing His provision, and His peace that passes all understanding. Pray that as these people emerge from this place they will come forth with a testimony of the faithfulness of our God. Please continue to pray for Patrick, the Board of Directors, and staff at Vision Beyond Borders. Pray that God's purposes will be accomplished in each of our lives, as well as the ministry as a whole. Pray God's direction and leading will be evident in every decision that is made and pray God continues to bless this ministry, bringing glory to His name alone! Thank you again for your prayer support!! Patrick and staff Rock International 10/7/09 Thank
you for your prayers. My recent ten-day visit to Quebec was a time of
encouragement and blessing. It had been nine years since the last
visit. I was thrilled to see so many young people in the local churches
I visited. A large portion of the church in Quebec is composed of
“first generation” believers. In all seven locations, my teaching
focused on the value of using biblical architecture (Luke 24:27) in
presenting the gospel to the biblically illiterate. The main event was
the annual CARO Conference for Christian workers, convened in beautiful
Quebec City. The theme was “Une Église Visionnaire, Une Église
Missionnaire” (A Visionary Church, A Missionary Church). I rejoiced to
observe their passion to reach out to the lost in a society that has
become almost completely secular. Let’s keep them in our prayers. |
